About the Australian STEM Competition

The ASC is a national independent not-for-profit that inspires Year 7 students. After a successful pilot in 2025, the competition is open to all Year 7 students in 2026. It combines interactive, game-like questions with rigorous assessment and reporting to engage all stakeholders in STEM.

The Role

As a STEM Education Specialist, you will provide expert advice and operational support to the ASC. This is a flexible, work-from-home opportunity available Australia-wide for current Australian teachers. We are aiming to create a diverse talent pool. While alignment with the ASC mission is essential, we don't expect every candidate to meet every criterion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop ideas for interactive, curriculum-aligned questions
  • Create scoring rubrics for constructed response questions
  • Mark student responses according to established rubrics and criteria

Essential Criteria

  • Current teacher in an Australian secondary school
  • Experience teaching STEM or STEM-related subjects
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to influence stakeholders

Desirable

  • Leading teacher, domain lead, or coordinator
  • Experience teaching Year 7 students
  • Experience with the stem.org.au teacher platform and sample questions
