About the Australian STEM Competition
The ASC is a national independent not-for-profit that inspires Year 7 students. After a successful pilot in 2025, the competition is open to all Year 7 students in 2026. It combines interactive, game-like questions with rigorous assessment and reporting to engage all stakeholders in STEM.
The Role
As a STEM Education Specialist, you will provide expert advice and operational support to the ASC. This is a flexible, work-from-home opportunity available Australia-wide for current Australian teachers. We are aiming to create a diverse talent pool. While alignment with the ASC mission is essential, we don't expect every candidate to meet every criterion.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop ideas for interactive, curriculum-aligned questions
- Create scoring rubrics for constructed response questions
- Mark student responses according to established rubrics and criteria
Essential Criteria
- Current teacher in an Australian secondary school
- Experience teaching STEM or STEM-related subjects
- Exceptional communication skills with an ability to influence stakeholders
Desirable
- Leading teacher, domain lead, or coordinator
- Experience teaching Year 7 students
- Experience with the stem.org.au teacher platform and sample questions
